A #1 - How do I know how much film I have?
You can figure out how much film you have by counting the number of films reels and then adding up the footages of each reel. Follow the chart below for 8mm and Super 8mm film.

A #2 How do you transfer film?
A#2 We use what is called the Telecine process. Quite simply we project the film into a lense then capture it with a broadcast quality video camera direct to our computer hard drive. From there we edit out out any unviewable footage such as leaders, tails and extreme over or under exposed film.
All film transfers are constantly monitored by a technician who makes realtime adjustments using broadcast quality equipment to ensure the best quality transfer possible.
Image processing is applied as needed such as Video Gamma correction, saturation and color correction
Custom chapter markers are added then titles and music & narration if desired.
Finally the DVD menu is created using still images captured from the footage and the Master DVD is burned. From the master multiple DVD copies can be made.
A #3 I don't know what the content of the film is, can I preview it somehow?
Update - We now have Super 8mm and regular 8mm film viewers available for loan for Nanaimo area customers to preview their film. Please call (250) 714-0886 to book a machine.
We do not recomend playing your film on the old family projector as it will undoubtably damage your film. Small particles of dust will scratch the film as it goes through the projector causing the familiar vertical scratches or worse the old machine may "eat" your film destroying sections completely.
Typically the amount of unveiwable footage is very small.
A#4 - How much film will fit on one DVD?
Update - We have reduced the amount of footage we put to a DVD to approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The reason for this is by reducing the amount of data we increase the finished image quality of the DVD by reducing the amount of compression required.
